Everose is Rolex’s own 18 kt pink gold alloy, cast in its own foundry and used on every pink gold Oyster since 2005. Rolex developed and patented it to preserve the color of its pink gold watches. The bezel is the Yacht-Master’s working tool. Turn it in either direction to time an interval of up to 60 minutes, such as the leg between two buoys. On the 268655 the insert is matt black Cerachrom ceramic, and the raised, polished numerals stand out against its sandblasted surface.

268655 Dial Versions: Black and Pavé Diamond

The 268655 has been made with two dials, and the reference number on the warranty card tells you which one you are looking at.

• Black dial (268655-0002 and 268655-0017). The configuration Rolex launched in 2015 and still makes, which Rolex calls intense black. The hands and hour markers come in simple shapes, triangles, circles and rectangles, and are filled with Chromalight, which glows blue in the dark. It was catalogued as 268655-0002 from its launch, and Rolex’s current catalogue lists it as 268655-0017.
• Pavé diamond dial (268655-0010). Also introduced in 2015, with the dial set with diamonds by Rolex. It is not in Rolex’s current US catalogue, so a -0010 today comes from the secondary market.

Case, bezel, movement and Oysterflex bracelet are the same on every version. If you want a pavé dial, make sure the diamonds are factory: a factory dial is recorded in the reference on the papers, while diamonds added after the watch left Rolex are not, and the two are valued very differently.

Rolex has raised its list prices several times since the 268655 launched in 2015, so a retail figure quoted in an older article is usually out of date. Only the black dial has a current retail price. The pavé -0010 is no longer in the catalogue, so its price is set by the secondary market alone. The closest relative is the 40 mm Yacht-Master 126655: the same Everose case, Cerachrom bezel and Oysterflex, 3 mm larger and powered by the calibre 3235 with about 70 hours of power reserve, against 55 hours for the 2236 in the 268655. What to Check Before Buying a Pre-Owned 268655

• The reference and the dial. Match the dial to the reference on the warranty card: -0002 or -0017 for black, -0010 for pavé diamonds.
• The diamonds. On a pavé dial, look for missing or loose stones, and make sure the dial is the factory -0010, not diamonds set after purchase.
• The Oysterflex. The elastomer shows wear first, at the edges near the lugs and on the cushions underneath. Rolex can replace it, but the cost belongs in the price you pay.
• The case. 18 kt Everose gold is softer than Oystersteel. Look for dents on the lugs, and for soft, rounded edges that point to heavy polishing.
