Audemars Piguet - A Legacy Born in the Vallée de Joux

Audemar Piguet only crafts 31,000 watches a year. Thus, owning an Audemar Piguet means that you are joining an exclusive family. Founded in 1875 by Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet in Le Brassus, nestled in the Vallée de Joux, Audemars Piguet is one of the few remaining independent, family-owned watchmakers. This region is considered the cradle of fine watchmaking, and it’s no surprise that this environment nurtured a brand that continues to honor the traditional techniques of its founders while embracing modern technology and artistic expression. As they say: "to break the rules, you must first master them".

About AP Watches and History of Audemars Piguet

Interestingly, at Audemars Piguet, mastery of watchmaking skills, tradition, as well as an innovative spirit along with the avant-garde is inextricably intertwined within the brand. AP - The Swiss heritage watchmaker has been continuously family-owned & operated since 1875, pushing technical & aesthetic limits while embracing grand horological traditions. Audemars Piguet watches are much easier to track down on the used watches market or second-hand market, though. Here, you’ll find authorized, certified, & trusted dealers like us who price their watches openly online. This allows you to shop for everything from lightly-used pre-owned Audemars Piguet watches to many vintage models. Not too long ago, Audemars Piguet created some of their most technically impressive timepieces with their ‘Tradition’ collection. Matching the cushion-shaped pocket watch designs of the past, the range includes tourbillon chronographs, perpetual calendars, and Grande Complications, as well as an ultra-thin selection of some other dress models. More than a century ago, AP built a reputation for inventiveness when they unveiled the first-minute repeater wristwatch in 1892 and went on to pioneer the ‘Jumping Seconds Hand pocket watch’ and the ‘first-ever skeleton watch.’ The company has been creating complicated mechanical watches since 1875. Nearly 150 years later, the Swiss watch brand is still using traditional & artisanal methods to create precise complications. Amongst its most famous mechanical innovations include the creation of the smallest minute repeater in the world as well as a jumping second-hand pocket watch.

Royal Oak

Royal Oak is a revolutionary timepiece in watchmaking. Audemars Piguet shook the world of luxury watches in 1972 with the launch of the Royal Oak, a game-changer that defied conventions of design and materials. Designed by Gérald Genta, the Royal Oak was the first luxury sports watch to feature a stainless steel case, octagonal bezel, and integrated bracelet—a bold move at a time when gold was the standard for luxury timepieces. Today, the Royal Oak remains one of the most sought-after models in the world, revered for its iconic design and superb mechanics. Further, the original Royal Oak was also nicknamed as ‘Jumbo’ due to its case size of 39mm diameter, which was considered extremely large when it was finally released. Moreover, in essence, the Royal Oak is a sports watch. And, its iconic design made it the first luxury stainless steel sports watch. Plus, with the introduction of precious stones & metals, the brilliant Royal Oak has secured its spot as a dress watch, too.

Royal Oak Offshore

You might also see some differences like a larger 42mm case, professional push-pieces & pronounced guards, a ‘Mega’ or larger tapisserie pattern on the dial, and a pin-buckle clasp instead of the AP folding clasp. Today, the current collection of this Royal Oak Offshore comprises a diverse range of models. It is available in various styles & materials, which offer the perfect selection for a variety of tastes. And compared to its predecessor, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore is bigger & sportier and is extensively successful with Audemars Piguet’s clientele.
