TAG Heuer Autavia

The TAG Heuer Autavia represents the absolute apex of dual-purpose horological engineering. Originally engineered by Jack Heuer as a dashboard instrument for both AUTomotive and AVIAtion in 1933, the Autavia evolved into an iconic racing chronograph in 1962.

TAG Heuer Autavia Models and References

Every modern TAG Heuer Autavia shares the same 42 mm architecture — a bidirectional rotating bezel, sapphire crystal, date at 6 o’clock and 100 m water resistance — and each is a COSC-certified chronometer. What separates them is the movement and the case material. There are four families to know.

Autavia GMT — Calibre 7

The traveller’s Autavia. The WBE511A.BA0650 pairs a blue sunray dial with a 24-hour ceramic bezel and a steel bracelet, driven by the COSC-certified Calibre 7 GMT with a 50-hour power reserve. Its independent second time zone makes this the most practical Autavia for anyone who crosses time zones regularly.

Autavia Flyback Chronometer — Calibre Heuer 02

The closest descendant of the 1960s racing chronograph, and the most mechanically serious watch in the collection. The in-house Calibre Heuer 02 is a column-wheel automatic chronograph with an 80-hour power reserve and a flyback complication that resets and restarts the timer in a single press — the function originally developed for pilots and rally timing. We stock it in brushed steel (CBE511A.FC8279) and black DLC-coated steel (CBE511C.FC8280), both on black alligator.

Autavia Calibre 5 — Steel

The three-hand automatic, and the easiest entry point to the collection. The steel 42 mm case carries a black ceramic bezel insert and a COSC-certified Calibre 5. Two dials are available — smoked black (WBE5114) and blue (WBE5116) — each offered on brown calfskin or a steel bracelet.

Autavia Bronze

The most characterful of the four. A fine-brushed bronze case with a matching bronze-and-ceramic bezel, which develops its own patina with wear so no two examples age alike. Offered with a smokey khaki green dial (WBE5190.FC8268) or a brown dial (WBE5191.FC8276), both on leather.

How to read an Autavia reference number

The suffix tells you the strap and the prefix tells you the movement. WBE denotes a three-hand or GMT automatic and CBE a Heuer 02 chronograph; .FC indicates a leather strap and .EB a steel bracelet. So a WBE5116.EB0173 is a blue-dial automatic on a bracelet, while a WBE5116.FC8266 is the same watch on brown calfskin.
