Will Rolex Explorer II increase in value?
In the past, the Rolex Explorer II was regarded as one of the most iconic timepieces, often considered a piece of art. Many collectors now believe that it has a strong opportunity for value appreciation. Although the market trends, scarcities and the demand for them are the main price determinants, two factors are important for the Explorer II: its solid reputation and its distinctive design which especially in rare or vintage models, often lead to steady growth in value. Like any luxury watch, the Rolex Explorer II, can be a worthy investment, but only if you carefully choose the right model and condition. Given the evolving luxury watch market, its place within the esteemed Rolex family ensures it will continue to be a highly coveted and valuable item.Does Polishing a Explorer II Devalue it?
The type of polishing and how much has been done may affect the value of a Rolex Explorer II. Light polishing, for minor superficial scratches, will not greatly diminish the value of the watch. In cases of heavy polishing, though, it reduces originality and character in those models considered vintage or collectible. Most luxury timepieces, including Rolex watches, are valued mainly because of their condition and authenticity. Heavy polishing might alter the finish of the case and bracelet, thereby affecting its value to collectors who favor a watch in its original state. Thus, it requires extra care when weighing against all pros and cons in having an old Rolex Explorer II polished up, if resale in the near or not-so-near future is intended.Investment and value
The price of Rolex Explorer ll never drops, thanks to its quality and continued demand. These timepieces represent a strong and solid investment opportunity. It's obvious that Rolex remains in high demand, and the brand's prices tend to rise over time. The Explorer ll is a prime example that supports this claim, especially when considering the other factors that contribute to its value. Its exceptional performance and the fact that it can be worn for a lifetime make it a strong investment in the long run. Here are several factors which demonstrates its solid investment opportunities:- Limited edition timepieces
- Unrivaled craftsmanship
- High quality materials
- Unique design
Historical Background
We met the first model of the Rolex Explorer 2 in 1971, and this model became very popular immediately after its release. The Ref.1655 was the first watch in the history of watches to have a 24-hour bezel. The purpose of this feature was to help people who could not see the light of day or had to work in the dark (for example, researchers). In 1985, Rolex further developed and released a new model, the Rolex Explorer 2 Ref 16550, which featured a caliber 3085 and a 40mm case. In 1989, another model was released, the Rolex Explorer Ref 16570, which unlike the previous model had a different caliber 3185. They made a small change in the design of this model and started using black contours on the large dial. On the 40th anniversary of this model, Rolex decided to release another version, the Rolex Explorer Ref 216570 (in 2011). The 42mm case of this model made it very sophisticated and comfortable for daily or business use. In 2021, Rolex released the Explorer Ref 226570, which was very similar to the previous model, but upon closer observation, we noticed the design changes and increased sophistication.Celebrities with Rolex Explorer II
