A few patterns make the list easier to read. For every dial, the Jubilee version lists for $1,200 less than the President version. The plain champagne and silver dials come with either baton hour markers or Roman numerals, while the white dial is made only with Roman numerals. The diamond-set champagne and silver dials come in two layouts: diamond hour markers alone, or diamond hour markers with a Roman numeral IX at 9 o’clock set with eight more diamonds, which adds $650 to the retail price. The paved dials are covered in 291 diamonds, with black Roman numerals.
Rolex 279178 Price
At retail, the 279178 runs from $34,100 for a champagne, silver or white dial on the Jubilee bracelet to $50,200 for the paved dial on the President bracelet. Apart from the two paved versions, every 279178 lists between $34,100 and $38,050. Rolex revises its list prices from time to time, so a retail figure quoted in an older article is often out of date.
For an individual watch, the price depends on the dial, whether the watch is unworn, whether the box and warranty card are present and how recent the date on the card is. Watches marked “Price on request” are in stock: contact us for a current figure.

President or Jubilee?
The President is the classic bracelet for a gold Lady-Datejust. Its semi-circular three-piece links are made only in gold or platinum, and a concealed attachment beneath the bezel lets the bracelet flow into the case without a visible break. The Jubilee, with five smaller links across, is more supple and reads a little less formal, and on the 279178 it is also solid 18 kt yellow gold. Both close with a concealed folding Crownclasp, so neither shows a clasp on the wrist. Every dial is available on both, and the Jubilee version lists for $1,200 less.
279178 vs 179178
The 279178 replaced the 26 mm 179178 in 2015, when Rolex enlarged the Lady-Datejust to 28 mm. Beyond the extra 2 mm, the main change is inside: the calibre 2236, with its Syloxi silicon hairspring and about 55 hours of power reserve, took over from the calibre 2235 and its roughly 48 hours. Both watches are 18 kt yellow gold with a fluted bezel. Before the 179178 came the 69178, the earlier 26 mm yellow gold Lady-Datejust. For the older generations, see our Rolex Datejust reference guide.
Other Gold Lady-Datejusts
The same 28 mm case with a fluted bezel is made in Everose gold as the 279175. For a bezel set with diamonds instead of fluting, the yellow gold version is the 279138RBR, with 44 brilliant-cut diamonds. The 279173 keeps the yellow gold fluted bezel but pairs it with an Oystersteel case, the combination Rolex calls yellow Rolesor. If you want the same look in a larger size, the Datejust 31 in yellow gold with a fluted bezel is the 278278.
What to Check Before Buying a 279178
- The dial against the papers. With 22 versions, check that the dial matches the full reference on the warranty card, including the four digits after 279178.
- Factory diamonds. Aftermarket diamond dials are common on gold Lady-Datejusts. A diamond-set 279178 should carry one of the diamond references in the table above on its papers, with the diamonds Rolex set at the factory.
- The case and bezel. 18 kt gold is softer than steel. Look for dents on the lugs and case sides, and for a fluted bezel whose sharp edges have been rounded by polishing.
- The bracelet. Check the links for stretch and the Crownclasp for a firm close, especially on a watch that has been worn.
- The warranty card. Rolex’s international guarantee runs five years from the date on the card, so the date matters as much as the card itself.
Every watch we sell is inspected and authenticated in house before it ships.
