Rolex Yacht-Master Platinum

The Rolex Yacht-Master platinum — known to collectors as Rolesium — pairs an Oystersteel case and bracelet with a bidirectional bezel machined from solid 950 platinum. Rolex created the combination in 1999 for this model alone, and it has never appeared on any other watch in the catalog. The sandblasted platinum bezel gives a soft matte sheen that sets it apart from the polished gold and ceramic bezels found elsewhere in the range, while the rhodium and slate dials shift from bright silver to near-charcoal as the light moves across them. At Watch My Diamonds we stock pre-owned and unworn Rolesium Yacht-Masters in both 37 mm and 40 mm, across the 16622, 116622, 126622 and 268622 references. What Is Rolesium?

Rolesium is Rolex's own trademark for the pairing of Oystersteel with 950 platinum, and it exists on one model only: the Yacht-Master. Rolex registered the name in 1999 alongside the reference 16622, and every Rolesium watch since has followed the same formula — an Oystersteel case and Oyster bracelet, topped with a bidirectional 60-minute bezel milled from solid platinum. What makes it read differently from a gold or ceramic bezel is the finish. Rolex sandblasts the platinum, then polishes the raised graduations, so the numerals sit bright against a matte grey field. Platinum is also considerably denser than steel or gold, which is why a Rolesium Yacht-Master carries more weight at the bezel than its case size suggests. Because platinum does not tarnish and is not a plating, the bezel keeps its color indefinitely — there is no coating to wear through. It is a softer metal than steel, though, so it picks up fine surface marks more readily. That is the single most useful thing to inspect on any pre-owned example.

Rolex Yacht-Master Rhodium and Slate Dials

Rolex catalogs the signature Rolesium dial as rhodium, but the trade — and most of the listings you will come across — calls the darker version slate or dark rhodium. They describe the same dial family, which is why searching either term surfaces the same watches. The rhodium dial is a cool, neutral grey with a soft metallic sheen. Under direct light it lifts almost to silver; in shade it settles into a deep charcoal. That shift is why the dial photographs so inconsistently online, and why buyers often assume two examples of the same reference have different dials when they do not. On the 40 mm 126622 the rhodium dial is paired with red YACHT-MASTER text, while the 37 mm 268622 uses blue accents on the seconds hand and printing. Blue is the other mainstay of the line — you will find those on our Yacht-Master blue dial page. The original 16622 is the exception. Its dial is platinum rather than rhodium, which reads brighter and slightly warmer in person than the grey dials that replaced it.

Rolesium References Compared: 16622, 116622, 126622 and 268622

Four references make up the Rolesium Yacht-Master line. Three are 40 mm and one is 37 mm, and the practical differences come down to movement generation and dial.
Reference Produced What defines it
16622 1999–2012 The original Rolesium. 40 mm, platinum dial and bezel, caliber 3135, 48-hour reserve.
116622 2012–2019 40 mm. Rhodium or blue dial, Chromalight lume and blue Parachrom hairspring, caliber 3135.
126622 2019–present 40 mm. Caliber 3235 with a 70-hour reserve, rhodium or blue dial.
268622 2015–present The 37 mm Yacht-Master. Caliber 2236 with Syloxi hairspring, 55-hour reserve, rhodium dial.
The jump most buyers weigh is 116622 to 126622: same case, same bezel, same dial colors, but the newer caliber 3235 adds roughly 22 hours of power reserve. If you want the detail, our Yacht-Master reference and generations guide compares them side by side, and we break down the earlier transition in Rolex Yacht-Master 16622 vs 116622. Rolex Yacht-Master Platinum Price

The cost of a Rolex Yacht-Master Rolesium in our store ranges from $10,448 to $19,470 depending on the reference and the condition of the timepiece. Because all four references share the same case, bezel and bracelet, the price spread is driven almost entirely by movement generation and age rather than by materials. An early 16622 is the most accessible route into a platinum-bezel Rolex; a current-production 126622 sits at roughly double.
Reference Size Our recent price range
16622 40 mm $10,400 – $11,700
116622 40 mm from about $11,500
268622 37 mm from about $16,100
126622 40 mm $16,900 – $19,500
Ranges reflect recent Watch My Diamonds inventory and move with condition, box and papers, and year. For a current figure on a specific watch, the price on each listing above is live.

Yacht-Master 37 mm vs 40 mm

The Rolesium Yacht-Master is offered in two sizes today, and the choice is more about proportion than gender. The 40 mm 126622 is the full-size sports Rolex: the same case diameter as a Submariner, with lug-to-lug proportions that suit a wrist of about 7 inches and up. The 37 mm 268622 is not simply a shrunken version — Rolex uses a different movement in it, the caliber 2236 with a Syloxi silicon hairspring, and the slimmer bezel-to-dial ratio makes the platinum surround read as a wider frame around a smaller dial. On paper the gap is 3 mm. On the wrist the 37 mm wears closer to a mid-size watch and works well on wrists under 6.75 inches or for anyone who prefers a Yacht-Master that sits under a cuff. Rolex has also produced Rolesium Yacht-Masters in 29 mm and 35 mm in the past; both are long discontinued and appear only on the pre-owned market.

How to Evaluate a Pre-Owned Rolesium Yacht-Master

Platinum behaves differently from steel, so a Rolesium bezel rewards a closer look than most. Check the bezel first. Platinum is soft. Light hairlines across the sandblasted surface are normal and expected on a worn watch; deep dings on the bezel edge are not, and they are expensive to address because the part cannot simply be polished back the way steel can. Confirm the bezel turns correctly. The Yacht-Master bezel is bidirectional with a 60-minute graduation. It should rotate smoothly in both directions with even resistance and no play at the edge. Look at the dial in two lights. Rhodium dials shift dramatically between direct light and shade. Ask for photos in both so you know what you are getting, and check that the applied markers and the printing are crisp. Match the reference to the movement generation. A 126622 should have the 70-hour caliber 3235. Confirm the reference on the paperwork matches the case, particularly on watches sold without box and papers. Every watch we sell is inspected and authenticated in New York before it is listed. If you have questions about a specific piece, call us at (212) 382-2600.

Rolex Yacht-Master Platinum FAQ

What is Rolesium?
Rolesium is Rolex's trademarked name for the combination of an Oystersteel case and bracelet with a bezel made of solid 950 platinum. Rolex introduced it in 1999 and has only ever used it on the Yacht-Master, which makes it the one way to own a platinum-bezel Rolex sports watch without buying a full precious-metal case.
How much is a Rolex Yacht-Master platinum?
Pre-owned Rolesium Yacht-Masters at Watch My Diamonds currently run from about $10,448 for an early 40 mm 16622 up to roughly $19,470 for a current-production 126622. The 37 mm 268622 sits around $16,100. Price is driven mainly by reference and condition, since all four references share the same materials.
Is the Rolex Yacht-Master bezel real platinum?
Yes. The bezel insert on every Rolesium Yacht-Master is milled from solid 950 platinum, not plated or coated. That is why it holds its color permanently — there is no finish to wear through — and why the watch feels heavier at the bezel than a comparable all-steel Rolex.
What is the difference between a rhodium and a slate Yacht-Master dial?
There is no difference in the metal or the finish. Rolex's official name for the dial is rhodium; slate and dark rhodium are the terms the secondary market uses for the same dial, usually when describing how dark it appears in a particular photograph. The dial genuinely does shift from silver to charcoal depending on the light.
Does the platinum bezel scratch easily?
Platinum is softer than steel, so it does mark more readily, and fine hairlines across the sandblasted surface are normal on any worn example. Platinum does not lose material the way a plated finish does, though — marks displace metal rather than removing it, so the bezel keeps its color and mass over decades of wear.
What size is the Rolex Yacht-Master platinum?
Rolesium Yacht-Masters are currently made in 40 mm (references 16622, 116622 and 126622) and 37 mm (reference 268622). Rolex has also produced Rolesium versions in 29 mm and 35 mm in the past, both discontinued and available only pre-owned.
