Rolex Watches with Brown Leather Straps
A brown leather strap is the dressiest way to wear a Rolex, and today it is also one of the rarest. In Rolex’s current catalog, the Perpetual 1908 is the only model sold on leather, and only one reference, the yellow gold 52508-0006, comes on brown. This collection gathers the brown-strap Rolex watches we have in stock and have recently sold: the 1908 in yellow gold, white gold and platinum, the Everose gold Cellini it replaced, and vintage Day-Date models fitted with brown straps. Prices, factory references and how to tell an original strap from an aftermarket one follow below the watches.

The other current 1908s on leather wear black alligator: in yellow gold, the black-dial 52508-0002 and the white-dial 52508-0005; in white gold, the black-dial 52509-0002 and the white-dial 52509-0005; in platinum, the 52506-0003. Every other Rolex collection in the current catalog comes on a metal bracelet or an Oysterflex. Rolex has also sold earlier gold Day-Date and Sky-Dweller references on leather straps, such as the Everose Day-Date 118135 and the Sky-Dweller 326135 with a chocolate dial; both appear in this collection as recent sales on brown.
The Perpetual 1908 on Brown Alligator
Rolex introduced the 1908 in 2023, naming it after the year Hans Wilsdorf registered the Rolex brand. Its 39 mm case has a bezel that is part domed, part fluted, and a transparent case back that shows calibre 7140, a self-winding movement with a silicon Syloxi hairspring and about 66 hours of power reserve. The dial carries a small seconds hand at six o’clock, and the case is waterproof to 50 m.
The strap is what sets the brown versions apart: matt brown alligator with a green calfskin lining and tone-on-tone stitching, closed by a Dualclasp, a double folding clasp made in the same metal as the case. We carry it in all three metals Rolex used with brown: the yellow gold 52508-0006, the white gold 52509-0006 and the platinum 52506-0002, whose ice blue dial is engraved with a rice-grain guilloché pattern. For every 1908 we have, including the versions on black and on the gold Settimo bracelet, see our Rolex 1908 page.
The Cellini, Rolex’s Earlier Dress Watch
Before the 1908, Rolex’s dress watches belonged to the Cellini line, which Rolex retired when it launched the 1908. Both of our Everose gold Cellini models came on what Rolex called tobacco leather, a warm mid-brown strap. Our Cellini Date 50515-0008 has a silver guilloché dial and an 18 kt gold buckle. The Cellini Moonphase 50535-0002 adds a blue enamel disc at six o’clock that tracks the lunar cycle, with the full moon shown by a piece of meteorite, and closes with a folding Crownclasp. Both have 39 mm cases with a domed and fluted double bezel, and our Cellini Date is priced well below a new 1908.
Factory Strap or Aftermarket?
Not every watch here wears the strap it left Rolex with. The vintage Day-Date 1803 and the Day-Date 18238 in this collection carry custom brown straps with gold-plated buckles, fitted after the watches left the factory, and each listing says so in its description. Original Rolex straps close with a Rolex buckle or folding clasp made in the same metal as the case, so a plated buckle on a solid gold watch is the quickest sign of an aftermarket strap. A custom strap is a sensible way to wear a vintage Day-Date; it simply should not be priced as a factory one. For Day-Date models on leather in other colors, see our Day-Date leather strap page.
Caring for a Brown Leather Strap
Leather is the part of the watch that ages fastest. Keep the strap away from water even though the case is waterproof, let it dry naturally if it gets damp, and rotate it with another watch in hot weather so that sweat has time to evaporate. Brown alligator darkens and softens with wear, which many owners like; a strap that has cracked at the holes or along the folds should be replaced. An Official Rolex Jeweler can order a factory replacement for the 1908 and the Cellini.
Buying a Rolex on Brown Leather
Check that the reference on the warranty card matches the watch, and on a 1908 or a Cellini confirm that the original Rolex buckle or clasp is included: it is solid gold or platinum and costly to replace. Ask whether the strap is the original one, a factory replacement or an aftermarket strap. Every watch we sell is inspected and authenticated in house before it ships.
