Rolex Caliber 3235

The Rolex Caliber 3235 is one of the most advanced automatic movements ever created by the brand. Introduced in 2015, it marked a major breakthrough in the evolution of Rolex engineering, replacing the long-standing Caliber 3135. Nearly 90% of its components were redesigned, resulting in higher efficiency, better accuracy, and significantly improved performance across every function.

At its core, the 3235 features Rolex’s Chronergy escapement, a patented system made from nickel-phosphorus that enhances energy efficiency by about 15% while providing exceptional resistance to magnetic fields. The escapement’s geometry allows the movement to run more efficiently, contributing directly to the extended power reserve. The movement delivers a 70-hour power reserve, a substantial upgrade compared to previous generations. This improvement is achieved through optimized barrel architecture and reduced energy consumption inside the gear train. The 3235 also operates at 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz), maintaining the smooth second-hand sweep and high accuracy Rolex is known for.

Rolex equipped the movement with its blue Parachrom hairspring, an extremely stable alloy designed to resist shocks, temperature fluctuations, and magnetism. It uses a free-sprung balance with Microstella nuts and a full balance bridge for greater durability and long-term reliability.

The 3235 features a highly efficient bidirectional Perpetual rotor, ensuring dependable automatic winding with minimal wrist motion. The movement is certified as a Superlative Chronometer, meaning it performs within an impressive –2/+2 seconds per day—stricter than standard chronometer requirements.

Additional technical refinements include an instantaneous date change mechanism, improved gear train efficiency, enhanced lubricants developed in-house, and components designed for longevity and reduced friction.
