Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15407 Double Balance Wheel Openworked
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15407 is the 41 mm Double Balance Wheel Openworked, the watch that introduced Audemars Piguet’s patented double balance wheel in 2016. Inside is calibre 3132, a self-winding movement with two balance wheels and two balance springs on the same axis, openworked so that the whole mechanism shows through the front and through the sapphire case back. The 15407 has been made in stainless steel, 18-carat pink gold, 18-carat yellow gold and hammered 18-carat white gold.

How the Double Balance Wheel Works
A mechanical watch keeps time through its balance wheel and balance spring, the regulating organ that swings back and forth at a fixed rate. How steady that organ stays decides how precisely the watch runs, and the way the watch is held on the wrist can disturb it. In the 15407, Audemars Piguet fixes a second balance wheel and balance spring on the same axis as the first, so the two work as a single regulating organ. The brand credits the patented geometry with a clear gain in precision and stability, at the cost of a far more complex manufacturing process.
Calibre 3132 is built from 245 parts and 38 jewels. It beats at 3 Hz, or 21,600 vibrations an hour, and holds a power reserve of 45 hours. There is no solid dial: the hour-markers sit on an inner bezel around the openworked movement, and the double balance can be seen from the front of the watch and through the case back.
Every 15407 Version
Audemars Piguet has made the 15407 in four metals. The steel watch exists in two versions, and the white gold watch is the hammered Frosted Gold edition. Every version is 41 mm, 9.9 mm thick in steel and 10.1 mm in gold.

The two steel versions are the easiest to confuse, and the suffix is what tells them apart. The .01 pairs the steel case with a slate grey movement, so the watch reads in one colour with pink gold accents. The .02 turns the movement and the inner bezel pink gold-toned and adds pink gold screws on the bezel, which Audemars Piguet presents as a two-tone look.
How to Read a 15407 Reference
The full reference spells out what the watch is made of. Reading 15407ST.OO.1220ST.02 from left to right:

| Model | 15407 | Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked, 41 mm, calibre 3132 |
| Case metal | ST | ST steel · OR pink gold · BA yellow gold · BC white gold |
