Bright Black and Black: Two Different Dials

Not every black Day-Date dial in this collection is the same black, and the reference number is the only place it shows. Several of the watches here carry Rolex’s bright black designation — a high-gloss, reflective surface that behaves almost like a mirror, so the day aperture at 12 o’clock and the date at 3 read as bright cutouts against a very dark ground. The rest are plain black: flatter, quieter, closer to matte, letting the applied gold markers carry the contrast on their own. The difference matters most in photographs.
