Rolex Datejust Chocolate Dial
Chocolate is Rolex’s name for its deep brown sunray dial, and in the current Datejust range it comes only with Everose gold, the 18 kt pink gold alloy Rolex makes in its own foundry. This collection brings together chocolate dial Datejusts in all four sizes, from the 41mm, and the 36mm, to the Datejust 31 and the 28mm Lady-Datejust, in two-tone Everose Rolesor or solid Everose gold, alongside pre-owned steel Datejusts with brown dials.

Rolex Datejust Chocolate Dial Price
At Watch My Diamonds, chocolate dial Rolex Datejust watches range from $7,099 to $35,090 across 16 priced listings.
That range covers every watch on this page that has a price, including watches that have already sold, because a recent sale is a better guide to the market than an asking price. Some watches are listed as price on request; ask us and we will quote a current price.
Two things move the price of a chocolate Datejust more than anything else: the metal and the bezel.
Datejust 41 Chocolate Dial
The Datejust 41 comes with a chocolate dial in two references, both in Everose Rolesor, Rolex’s combination of Oystersteel and Everose gold. The 126331 has a fluted Everose gold bezel, the most traditional Datejust look, and the 126301 has a smooth bezel for a plainer, more modern face. Otherwise they are the same watch: a 41mm Oyster case, the calibre 3235 with about 70 hours of power reserve, and a choice of the three-link Oyster or the five-link Jubilee bracelet, with plain chocolate index hour markers or a dial set with diamonds. At Rolex the fluted bezel costs only $100 more.
Datejust 36 Chocolate Dial
At 36mm, the classic Datejust size, the chocolate dial comes in three Everose Rolesor references that differ only in the bezel: the fluted 126231, the domed 126201 and the 126281RBR, whose bezel Rolex sets with diamonds. All three use the calibre 3235 and are offered on the Oyster or the Jubilee bracelet, with a plain or a diamond-set chocolate dial. Some earlier chocolate dials, such as the diamond-set Jubilee motif dial with the Rolex name repeated across it, are no longer in the catalog and now come only from the secondary market.
Datejust 31 Chocolate Dial
Every current Datejust 31 with a chocolate dial has diamonds on the dial. Rolex offers two layouts: Roman numerals with a large VI set with 11 diamonds, and diamond hour markers in 18 kt gold settings. In Everose Rolesor the choice is the bezel: fluted on the 278271, domed on the 278241, domed and set with diamonds on the 278341RBR, and fully diamond-set on the 278381RBR. At the top of the range, the 278275 and the 278285RBR are cased in solid 18 kt Everose gold on the President bracelet.
Lady-Datejust 28 Chocolate Dial
The 28mm Lady-Datejust has the widest choice of chocolate dials of any Datejust. In Everose Rolesor there are three references: the fluted 279171, the domed 279161 and the 279381RBR with a diamond bezel, each with a plain chocolate dial or one set with diamonds. In 18 kt Everose gold, the 279175 has a fluted bezel and the 279135RBR a diamond bezel, both on the President or the Jubilee bracelet. They share the calibre 2236 of the Datejust 31.
Buying a Chocolate Dial Datejust
- Factory or aftermarket diamonds. Rolex lists every diamond-set dial and bezel as a separate reference, and a factory diamond bezel carries the RBR suffix. Aftermarket diamonds are priced very differently, so make sure the listing says which one you are buying. If it does not, ask us.
- The full reference. One base reference covers several dials and bracelets, so check the suffix against the photos. On the 126331, for example, -0001 is the plain chocolate dial on the Oyster bracelet and -0003 the diamond-set dial on the same bracelet.
- Oyster or Jubilee. On the two-tone models the Jubilee costs $650 to $800 more than the Oyster at Rolex and wears dressier. On a pre-owned watch, check the bracelet for stretch between the links.
- Papers and age. Box and papers add value, and the warranty card dates a recent watch. Most of the current Everose references in stock here are unworn.

Does Rolex make a chocolate Datejust in steel or yellow gold?
Not in the current range. Every chocolate dial Datejust on rolex.com is cased in Everose Rolesor or in solid 18 kt Everose gold. Steel Datejusts with brown dials do exist on the secondary market, mostly older references such as the 16200.
What is the difference between the Rolex 126331 and the 126301?
Only the bezel. The 126331 has a fluted bezel in 18 kt Everose gold and the 126301 a smooth one. Both are 41mm Everose Rolesor watches with the calibre 3235 and the same dial and bracelet options, and at Rolex the 126331 costs $100 more: $17,550 against $17,450 with a plain chocolate dial on the Oyster bracelet.
Is a chocolate dial the same as a brown dial?
Chocolate is Rolex’s own name for the brown sunray dial it pairs with Everose gold. Sellers often use the two words interchangeably, and you will see both on this page. On current Datejusts the chocolate dial has a sunray finish, so it shifts from dark brown to a warmer, lighter tone as it catches the light.
