Rolex Lady-Datejust Two Tone
Two-tone is what Rolex calls Rolesor: Oystersteel combined with 18 kt yellow gold or Everose gold, with the gold on the bezel, the winding crown and the center links of the bracelet. This collection gathers every two-tone Lady-Datejust and Datejust 31 we have, from 26 mm watches made in the 1980s to the current 28 mm Lady-Datejust and the Datejust 31, on Jubilee or Oyster bracelets, with fluted, domed or diamond-set bezels.

Two-Tone Lady-Datejust Prices
At Watch My Diamonds, two-tone Rolex Lady-Datejust watches range from $6,399 to $31,750 across 64 priced listings.
That range includes watches that have already sold, because a recent sale is a better guide to the market than an asking price alone. Some watches are listed as price on request: ask us and we will quote a current price.
Yellow Rolesor or Everose Rolesor
Rolex developed Rolesor in the 1930s and still uses the name for every watch that pairs steel with 18 kt gold. On a two-tone Lady-Datejust the gold parts are the bezel, the winding crown and the center links of the bracelet; the case and the outer links are steel, which Rolex now calls Oystersteel. The gold is solid, not plated. Rolesor runs across the whole Rolex range, and you can see every two-tone Rolex we have in one place.
Yellow Rolesor is the classic two-tone. A reference whose number ends in 3 is yellow Rolesor: the 69173 and the 179173 at 26 mm, the 279173 and the 279163 at 28 mm, the 68273, the 178273 and the 278273 at 31 mm. Champagne dials are the traditional match for yellow gold.
Everose Rolesor pairs steel with Everose, the 18 kt pink gold alloy Rolex introduced in 2005 and casts in its own foundry in Geneva. A reference whose number ends in 1 combines steel with pink gold: the current 279171 at 28 mm, the current 278271 at 31 mm, and earlier models such as the 26 mm 179171 and the 31 mm 178271. Chocolate, rosé and mother-of-pearl dials suit its warmer tone; every steel and pink gold Rolex we have is in our rose gold two-tone collection.
Lady-Datejust Sizes, From 26 mm to 31 mm
Rolex sorts its watches by size rather than by gender, and for most buyers looking for a women’s two-tone Rolex the choice comes down to the Lady-Datejust and the Datejust 31. The two-tone ladies’ Datejust has come in three case sizes:
| Size | Yellow Rolesor | Steel and pink gold | Calibre |
|---|---|---|---|
| 26 mm | 69173, 179173 | 179171 | 2135, then 2235 |
| 28 mm | 279173, 279163, 279383RBR | 279171, 279161, 279381RBR | 2236 |
| 31 mm | 68273, 178273, 278273, 278243, 278343RBR, 278383RBR | 178271, 178341, 278271, 278241, 278341RBR, 278381RBR | 2135, then 2235, now 2236 |
The 26 mm models are the original Lady-Datejust size and the least expensive way into a two-tone Lady-Datejust today. The 69173 was made from the mid-1980s to 1999; the 179173 that followed moved to the calibre 2235. Since the mid-2010s the Lady-Datejust has measured 28 mm and used the calibre 2236, with a Syloxi silicon hairspring and about 55 hours of power reserve; current models carry Rolex’s Superlative Chronometer certification, accurate to −2/+2 seconds a day after casing.
Jubilee or Oyster Bracelet
A two-tone Lady-Datejust comes on one of two bracelets. The Jubilee, with five-piece links, is the dressier choice; current versions close with a concealed Crownclasp. The Oyster, with three-piece solid links, is sportier and has an Easylink extension that adds 5 mm when the wrist needs more room on a hot day. At Rolex retail the Jubilee costs $650 more on the same watch: $13,000 against $12,350 for the champagne 279173. The President bracelet is reserved for Rolex models in solid gold and platinum, so Rolex does not fit it to a two-tone Lady-Datejust.

What to Check on a Pre-Owned Two-Tone Lady-Datejust
- Diamonds. Make sure a diamond dial or bezel is original to the watch. Factory settings match the reference on the warranty card; stones added later are priced very differently.
- Gold wear. Gold is softer than steel. Look at the edges of the fluted bezel and the center links of the bracelet: a fluted bezel that has been polished too often loses its sharp ridges.
- Bracelet stretch. On older Jubilee bracelets some play between the links is normal wear, but heavy stretch means the bracelet has worked hard.
- Papers and service. The box, the warranty card and a service history add value and make resale easier. A watch without them can still be a good buy at the right price.
Two-Tone Lady-Datejust FAQ
What does two-tone mean on a Rolex?
Two-tone means a watch made of steel and gold. Rolex calls the combination Rolesor: on a Lady-Datejust the bezel, the winding crown and the center links of the bracelet are 18 kt yellow or Everose gold, while the case and the outer links are Oystersteel.
Is the gold on a two-tone Rolex real?
Yes. The gold parts of a Rolesor watch are solid 18 kt gold, not plating. Rolex casts its gold alloys in its own foundry in Geneva, including Everose, the pink gold it introduced in 2005.
What is the difference between the 69173, the 179173 and the 279173?
They are three generations of the yellow Rolesor Lady-Datejust. The 69173 measures 26 mm and uses the calibre 2135. The 179173, also 26 mm, moved to the calibre 2235. The current 279173 grew to 28 mm and uses the calibre 2236, with about 55 hours of power reserve.
Lady-Datejust or Datejust 31: which should I choose?
The 28 mm Lady-Datejust is the classic small dress watch and sits neatly on a slim wrist. The Datejust 31 has a larger dial that is easier to read and fills out a wider wrist. Rolex sorts its watches by size rather than gender, so the right one is the size that looks balanced on you. If you can, try both.
How much does a two-tone Lady-Datejust cost?
At Rolex retail, a current two-tone Lady-Datejust costs from $12,200 for a domed-bezel 279163 on an Oyster bracelet to $23,400 for a 279381RBR with a diamond bezel. A two-tone Datejust 31 runs from $13,100 to $25,000. Pre-owned prices for every watch on this page are listed above, and the earlier 26 mm references cost the least.
