HISTORY OF CARTIER WATCHES

Founded by Louis-Francois Cartier in Paris in 1874, the brand “Cartier” has passed from generation to generation but has remained in the family. The company created its first timepiece in 1903 after receiving a request from a Brazilian pilot. The pilot served as an inspiration for the name of the first watch designed by the brand, which was ‘Santos’ Cartier’s grandsons made two integral advancements for the company, including the mystery clock and the ‘Tutti Frutti’ jewels.

In 1907 Cartier and Edmond Jaeger entered a contract, making Jaeger the exclusive supplier of the movements for all of the brand’s watches. In the same year, the company opened bricks and mortar shops for their luxury watches in New York, St. Petersburg & London. Since Cartier’s humble beginnings and his watchmaking efforts, the company has grown and evolved. It still provides top of the line luxury watches today, though, with the same attention to detail as seen in the first models.

WHAT MAKES CARTIER WATCHES DIFFERENT?

Thanks to the heritage and awareness of the Cartier Watch, the company has become famous over the years. THE BUYING GUIDE FOR CARTIER WATCHES

Cartier watches make excellent investments due to their elegant designs, profound reliability, and high-quality materials, that are simultaneously both unique and truly timeless. Although some models can be expensive, mainly if they are iced-out or constructed from precious metals and set with diamonds, most pre-owned ones can be purchased for a reasonable price point.

The second-hand market offers excellent savings on both modern & vintage models. However, since they are amongst the most desirable and recognizable timepieces on this planet, they frequently become a target for counterfeiters. So, when purchasing any high-end luxury watch, an authenticity guarantee from a reputable seller like us is of utmost importance, and the phrase, “buy the seller” is now more famous than ever.

ICONIC CARTIER MODELS

Few watch manufacturers can compete with the company’s long-standing reputation for producing some of the most iconic wristwatches of all time. People wear the Ronde de Cartier for its modern yet understated design, and quite obviously, it appeals to a younger generation of collectors.

At the same time, the Drive de Cartier collection has a unique appearance, with a gently curved case, and domed sapphire crystal, making this design the perfect timepiece to pair with your business attire. Despite many successful watch collections in the company’s portfolio, Ballon Bleu, Calibre de Cartier, the Tank, and Santos, are true industry icons and will always remain among Cartier’s most popular models.

BALLON BLEU

Perfectly rounded like the shape of a balloon, the Ballon Bleu collection of watches is tailored towards individuals who love sheer elegance & grand complications. First launched in 2007, the collection appealed equally to both men & women. With a high-quality finish, an unusual bubble-shaped profile, and a blue cabochon-adorned crown, the Cartier Ballon Bleu is an inherently elegant watch that does not look like any other model on the market.

Most of the watches in this unique collection feature Roman numerals & elegant blued steel hands as well as a unique protective arc which protects the crown that marks the point at which the case and dial curve inwards.

The blue highlights in the Ballon Blue that you can see in the hands & cabochon crown has become a distinct design trait of this collection. The case diameter of a Ballon Bleu model watch varies from a discreet 28mm to a bold 46mm, so there’s a model for every possible wrist size.

CALIBRE DE CARTIER

The Calibre de Cartier watches pays tribute to the company’s first-ever in-house developed movement. The sporty timepieces can help you to reimagine the traditional round watch aesthetic. They are popular with those who appreciate the brand’s unique designs and excellent craftsmanship, but who want something more modern in design.

The collection was launched in 2010 and included both dive watches and more traditional timepieces. Despite being from a brand that is widely known for its elegant dress watches, the Calibre de Cartier dive watches feature 300-meters of water resistance, which makes them a highly capable companion for adventures underwater. The watches from this collection also feature three-handed dial designs with subsidiary seconds and date displays. Moreover, they are available in a range of different materials, sizes, and with several contrasting strap or bracelet options.

THE TANK

The Tank series of Watches by Cartier is characterized by its rectangular-shaped case with a vintage-inspired design. You cannot ignore the iconic Tank watch as its shape and design pay homage to Britain’s first use of tanks at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette in 1916. The lines in these watches are reminiscent of the Tank’s tracks. And its unique lugs make the strap fit seamlessly onto the case without any space in between.

These watches are geared towards collectors who love military timepieces, along with the Art Deco-inspired watches as the collection’s sub-families like the Tank Americaine have an accentuated oblong shape and a more elegant demeanor.

One very unique characteristic of the Tank series of watches is their ability to pair beautifully with a formal or professional suit without even slightly looking like a military watch.

Further, the Cartier’s Tank discreet nods to World War I armored tanks like the FT-17 many of which are characterized by a railroad minute track, and two blue hands are tastefully subtle. The brand has developed around 250 different versions of the Tank since its release in 1917.

Other sub-models of the marvelous Tank collection include the Tank MC, Tank Solo Tank Cintrée & the Tank Francaise. At Watch My Diamonds, you can purchase models with both quartz & mechanical movements, along with different case materials, sizes, and dial designs.

SANTOS

In 1906, Alberto Santos-Dumont, a Brazilian aviator, flew the first-ever public engine-powered flight with an important Cartier watch strapped to his wrist. Previously, Santos-Dumont had reached out to the company for a timepiece that he could wear on his wrist.

He did it so that he could quickly reference the time without removing either of his hands from the controls of his plane. Also, he did not want to fumble with a pocket watch. The company fulfilled his request, and today this ground-breaking watch is considered to be one of the world’s very first pilot’s watches.

The Santos series of Watches by Cartier possesses a distinct design with a rectangular case that has exposed screws on its bezel. Moreover, the traditional Roman numeral hour markers are subtly stretched to fill the gigantic proportions of the dial. Further, in 2018, updated versions of the Cartier Santos collection were launched, which added Cartier’s patented SmartLink and QuickSwitch systems and a more rounded, smoother, flowing case design.
