AP - The Swiss heritage watchmaker has been continuously family-owned & operated since 1875, pushing technical & aesthetic limits while embracing grand horological traditions.

Audemars Piguet watches are much easier to track down on the used watches market or second-hand market, though. Here, you’ll find authorized, certified, & trusted dealers like us who price their watches openly online. Not too long ago, Audemars Piguet created some of their most technically impressive timepieces with their ‘Tradition’ collection. Matching the cushion-shaped pocket watch designs of the past, the range includes tourbillon chronographs, perpetual calendars, and Grande Complications, as well as an ultra-thin selection of some other dress models. More than a century ago, AP built a reputation for inventiveness when they unveiled the first-minute repeater wristwatch in 1892 and went on to pioneer the ‘Jumping Seconds Hand pocket watch’ and the ‘first-ever skeleton watch.’

The company has been creating complicated mechanical watches since 1875. Nearly 150 years later, the Swiss watch brand is still using traditional & artisanal methods to create precise complications. Amongst its most famous mechanical innovations include the creation of the smallest minute repeater in the world as well as a jumping second-hand pocket watch.

AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK

Their most unique creation, the extraordinary Royal Oak, was designed way back by legendary stylist Gérald Genta in 1972. Taking its inspiration from vintage diving helmets, with eight visible screws on the unorthodox octagonal bezel, the Royal Oak has come to define Audemars Piguet for decades, and it’s identity-striking, unconventional and iconic.

Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak was a groundbreaking timepiece both for the brand and for the watch industry as a whole. The watch’s strikingly modern and chic look turned the world of luxury watch design upside down. It features a hexagonal bezel with exposed screws & integrated bracelet. Although the exclusive, bold & unusual construction was polarizing at first, the Royal Oak was ultimately a hit, and now it is the brand’s flagship model.

With its steel octagonal bezel outfitted with screws, Tapisserie dial, and other features, the incredible Royal Oak isn’t just an icon for the company, but within the industry as a whole. Launched in 1972 at the Baselworld fair, it is the most famous offering by the Audemars Piguet. The AP Royal Oak is also considered to be the world’s very first luxury sports watch.

It came with an extraordinary feature of water & shock resistance and provided durability to suit any watch enthusiast. Modern, mechanical & strikingly brilliant Royal Oak was the antithesis of the cheap, mass-market quartz watches flooding the market. It not only revolutionized Audemars Piguet as a luxury watch brand but breathed new life into what everyone thought was the dying art of mechanical watchmaking.

Further, the original Royal Oak was also nicknamed as ‘Jumbo’ due to its case size of 39mm diameter, which was considered extremely large when it was finally released. Moreover, in essence, the Royal Oak is a sports watch. And, its iconic design made it the first luxury stainless steel sports watch. Plus, with the introduction of precious stones & metals, the brilliant Royal Oak has secured its spot as a dress watch, too.

AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK OFFSHORE

In 1993, almost 20 years after the first Royal Oak, Audemars Piguet introduced an even sportier, masculine, and powerful Royal Oak Offshore. Built on the same aesthetic fundamentals like the octagonal case, iconic case screws & integrated bracelet, along with the Tapisserie dial, the Royal Oak Offshore has some exciting features. You might also see some differences like a larger 42mm case, professional push-pieces & pronounced guards, a ‘Mega’ or larger tapisserie pattern on the dial, and a pin-buckle clasp instead of the AP folding clasp.

Today, the current collection of this Royal Oak Offshore comprises a diverse range of models. It is available in various styles & materials, which offer the perfect selection for a variety of tastes. And compared to its predecessor, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore is bigger & sportier and is extensively successful with Audemars Piguet’s clientele.

A favorite among the rich & famous – Now, you might not know that Arnold Schwarzenegger sported a specially designed limited edition Audemars Piguet ‘Royal Oak Offshore’ in two of his most famous films - “Terminator 3” & “End of Days.” Further, Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher also owns a limited edition Royal Oak Offshore that was created in his honor.
